Out here in the Riico Industrial Area 4th Phase, it is always noisy and dusty. Our unit is F-203 and you can’t miss it because of the heavy stacks of stone sitting outside. Being Gajendra Granites Pvt Ltd means a lot of heavy lifting and making sure the machines are running right. My clothes are usually covered in a fine layer of white dust by ten in the morning. We spend a lot of time moving these big granite slabs around with the crane. It’s heavy work and you have to be careful where you step. The sun hits the metal roof of the shed and it gets really warm in the afternoons. We usually take a break under the tree near the gate to eat lunch. There is nothing fancy about this place. It is just a workspace where we get the cutting and polishing done. People come by looking for specific colors or patterns and we show them what we have in the yard. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the narrow lanes of the industrial area and we have to help them navigate. It is a long day from start to finish, but the work is steady. We just focus on the slabs we have in front of us and try to get through the orders for the week without any of the machines breaking down on us. The stones are heavy but they look nice once they are finished and ready to go.
