If you come down Shani Bazar Road in Kirari, you’ll find us at Plot No. 1. We are pretty close to Lal Mandir, so it’s easy to give directions. This is a place where we work with steel all day long. You’ll hear the sound of grinders and the hiss of welding machines from the street. There are always sparks flying somewhere in the shop, and we all wear thick gloves because the metal gets incredibly hot. We make things like gates, window grills, and frames. It’s heavy work, and by the end of the day, our clothes are usually grey with metal dust. The workshop is open to the air mostly, so we feel the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room; if someone wants to talk to us, they usually just walk in and find us among the pipes and sheets of steel. We spend a lot of time checking angles and making sure the welds are solid. Sometimes we have to go out to Gaurav Nagar or Prem Nagar to install what we’ve made, which is a whole different kind of effort. It’s not a glamorous life, but there is something good about seeing a pile of raw steel turned into a finished gate. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. There is always a new project to start on when the old one is finished.
