National Institute Of Oceanography

We are located out in Dona Paula, right by the coast in Goa. Our spot is the Geological Oceanography Division at the National Institute of Oceanography. It’s a beautiful place to work, even if the building is getting a bit older now. You can smell the salt in the air most days. We spend a lot of time looking at rocks and stuff from the ocean floor. The labs are full of samples and equipment that’s seen better days but still works just fine. It’s not a corporate vibe at all. Usually, researchers are walking around in casual clothes, maybe with some sand on their shoes. We’ve got a lot of maps pinned to the walls and jars of sediment sitting on the shelves. The walk from the main gate up to the division is nice, especially when the weather isn’t too hot. Sometimes the monkeys around here get a bit bold and try to peek through the windows. It’s a quiet place for the most part, unless we’re unloading a bunch of equipment from a boat trip. We just do our thing, studying the sea and the ground beneath it. People have been coming here for years to do this kind of work. It feels like a real community of people who just like the ocean and want to understand it better without all the fuss.
