United Cold Storge & Ice Factory

We operate out of C 88 in the New Fruit Market at Azadpur. This place is probably one of the busiest spots in the whole city. If you come here at four in the morning, you will see trucks lined up for miles. Our job at United Cold Storge & Ice Factory is pretty straightforward but very tiring. We make large blocks of ice and provide cold rooms for all the fruit that comes in from the farmers. The contrast between the heat outside in the mandi and the freezing air inside our rooms is something you never quite get used to. We spend our shifts moving heavy crates and making sure the temperature stays exactly where it should be. If the machines stop, the fruit ruins, so we are always on guard. The floor is usually wet from the melting ice, and the noise of the compressors is always humming in the background. We are not a fancy corporate office; we are a working factory in the middle of a chaotic market. Most of our workers have been here a long time and they know how to handle the heavy lifting. We do not do much talking; we just focus on the ice and the storage. It is a hard way to make a living, but it is an essential part of how the market works.
