Surinder Catering Services

We have been operating Surinder Catering Services out of Azad Market B-14 for quite a few years now. It is a busy spot, especially in the mornings when all the vegetable trucks are coming in and the whole street is full of noise. Our kitchen isn't very large, but we make it work. Most days, you will find a couple of us standing over big pots of dal or chopping up vegetables on the heavy wooden tables we’ve had since the start. It gets really hot in there during the summer months, so we usually keep the back door open to get some air from the alley. We started this because we knew how to cook for large groups of people without making a big mess of things. People in the neighborhood know where to find us if they have a wedding or a small prayer meeting at home. We don't have a fancy office with leather chairs. It’s mostly just stacks of stainless steel plates and big containers for transport. Sometimes the delivery van doesn't want to start, or we run out of gas cylinders right when we need them most, but that is just how it goes when you run a small business in this part of town. We try to keep things simple and just focus on getting the food delivered on time to whoever called us that week. It’s a lot of physical work, but we are used to it by now and we don't plan on moving.
