Solitaire Steels

Out here in Bawana, things are always moving and the noise never really stops. Our place is located at M-251 in Sector-5. If you come by to visit us, you’ll hear the sounds of metal hitting metal long before you see the sign for Solitaire Steels. It’s a big, open space filled with all kinds of steel. We’ve got stacks of heavy beams and sheets all over the floor. It can get pretty dusty inside, especially when the wind picks up across the industrial area and blows through the open doors. We start early, usually before the traffic gets really bad on the main roads around here. The crew is mostly local guys who have been working with steel for a long time. We don't spend much time in the small office we have tucked at the front. Most of the action is in the back where the cutting and moving happens. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. We have a few old fans that try to keep the air moving, but it’s still very hot in the middle of the summer. You won't find any polished floors or fancy receptionists here. Just a lot of heavy lifting and making sure the sizes are exactly what was asked for. We keep a logbook on a battered clipboard to track what comes in and goes out. It’s a basic operation. We know all the other shop owners on the street. Sometimes we share a tea in the afternoon while the trucks are being loaded.
