Our place, Shanti Lal Amit Kumar, is located at 401 on the Khari Baoli Main Road. If you know this area, you know it is one of the busiest spice markets around. The air is always thick with the smell of turmeric and chili, which makes some people sneeze when they first walk in. We’ve been in this old building for a long time. The walls are thick and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it holds all our stock well enough. We deal with heavy sacks of goods every day, so there is always someone moving something around or weighing out orders on the scale. It’s mostly wholesale work, so we have lots of regulars who have been buying from us for decades. It’s a family-run thing, and things can get a bit loud when we are all trying to get things done at once. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s just a workspace filled with bags and ledgers. We write everything down in books because that’s how we’ve always done it. Sometimes the traffic in the narrow streets outside gets backed up for hours, making deliveries a bit of a headache. But that is just life in Khari Baoli. We keep our heads down and focus on the work. It’s a traditional way of doing business and it works for us. We are just here to do the job every day and provide what people need.
