Hauz Qazi is one of those places that never stops. If you’ve ever been near the Chawri Bazar Metro Station, you know the crowd. Our place is at Plot No. 5004 in Sirkiwalan. It’s packed with shops selling all sorts of metal and hardware. We have been here for years, dealing with the daily chaos of the market. The streets are so narrow that two rickshaws can barely pass each other. We spend a lot of time just managing the space we have. There are heavy items everywhere. Sometimes the noise from the street is so loud you have to shout to be heard. It’s not a quiet office job, that’s for sure. We get people coming from all over the city because this is where everything is. The walls are lined with shelves that go all the way up. We use old ladders that creak a bit. It’s a bit dusty, and the tea guy comes around every two hours. That’s basically the highlight of the afternoon. We don’t really do much advertising or anything like that. Most people just find us because they’re already in the area for something else. There’s a small temple nearby and the bells ring in the morning which is nice to hear before the street gets too loud. It’s a tough place to work because of the heat and the people, but it’s home for us. We just keep doing what we do every day.
