Amar Jee

We are located at 336 Naya Katra in the heart of Chandni Chowk. This place is incredibly old and the lanes are so thin that two people can barely walk side by side. Amar Jee is what we are known as around here. We have been in this spot for a very long time, through all the changes in Delhi. Our shop is small and filled to the ceiling with stuff. We don't have fancy shelves or lighting. Most of the time, we sit on the floor on a white cloth spread out, which is the traditional way of doing business in this market. It keeps us grounded. The air is always full of the smell of street food and spices. It is very loud with all the shouting and the carts moving by. We don't have a computer system that tracks everything. We still use the old red books for our accounts. It takes more time, but we like it that way. Customers come in and sit with us, and we always offer them tea or cold water. It's more about the relationship than just a quick sale. We know the families of the people who buy from us. Sometimes the power goes out and we just use a small rechargeable lamp. It’s not a polished business, it’s just how life is in Chandni Chowk. We work hard from morning until the market closes late at night.
