Punjab General Store

Working at 366 Main Sadar Bazar means you are always in the middle of a crowd. It is a very old and busy part of the city, and the noise never really stops. Our shop is just one of many in the bazar, but we have our own spot where we keep all the general items people are looking for. We have buckets, ropes, cleaning brushes, and all sorts of plastic goods hanging from the ceiling to save space. There is not much room to walk around inside because every inch is used for storage. You have to know exactly where everything is kept or you will never find it when a customer asks. The heat in the summer can be tough because the air does not move much in these narrow bazar streets. We drink a lot of water and keep the old overhead fan going. People come from all over to shop in Sadar Bazar, so we meet a lot of strangers along with our regular buyers who have been coming for years. The building is old and the stairs nearby are narrow and steep. We do not have fancy glass counters, just sturdy wooden ones that can handle heavy bags. It is a fast-paced environment where you have to be quick with your hands and your math. Every day is different even though we are selling the same basic things to everyone who passes through the bazar.
