Pankaj Store

Pankaj Store is right in the middle of Naya Bazar. It’s easy to find because we’re right near the Surya Sewing Machine Company, which has been there forever. Our shop is one of those places where there’s stuff stacked from the floor up to the ceiling. We sell a bit of everything that people in the neighborhood might need for their daily cooking or household stuff. It gets quite noisy in the market, especially on the weekends when everyone is out shopping. I’ve been working here for a long time, and I know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who know where every single item is hidden on the shelves. It looks a bit messy to some people, but we have our own system for finding things. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving. We spend a lot of time weighing things out or bagging items up for customers. It’s a lot of standing on your feet, but it’s what we do. The building is older, but it stays cool enough in the shade. When the sewing machine shop next door is busy, you can hear the clicking sounds while you work. It’s just a normal local store where people stop by for a quick chat and to grab their supplies.
