Mohan Jee

Mohan Jee is my little place located at Bg-1/1A in the DDA Flats of Shalimar Bagh. We are right near Anand Dairy which everyone in this part of Delhi knows about. Living and working in the DDA flats is a specific kind of lifestyle where everyone is close together. My shop is where people stop by when they realize they forgot something for dinner or just want a small treat. It’s a bit cramped inside because I try to fit as much stock as possible on the wooden shelves. You’ll find things piled up sometimes because the space is small, but I know where everything is kept. The Delhi heat can be tough in the afternoons so the shop gets a bit quiet then, but things pick up once the sun goes down and people come out for their evening walks. I’ve been here in Shalimar Bagh for a long time now. It’s not a big supermarket with bright lights and air conditioning, just a regular corner shop. We get the bread and eggs delivered fresh every morning. Sometimes the traffic outside near the dairy is a mess but that’s just Delhi for you. I try to keep things simple and just provide what the neighbors need. Most days I’m just chatting with the regulars while I weigh out the goods. It’s a quiet life but it keeps me occupied and connected to the people living here.
