Meena Sarees Centre is located at Shop No 38 in the Khemchand Market. If you know Khanpur, you know this market gets really packed, especially on the weekends. Our shop is just one of those small spots tucked in there among all the other sellers. It is not very big, but we managed to fit a lot of shelves in. I spend most of my day just unfolding things to show people and then trying to fold them back exactly right, which is harder than it looks. We have been in Khemchand Market for a long time now. The floor is a bit worn out from all the walking, and the paint is peeling a little in the corners, but it works for us. We do not have a big staff, just us family members taking turns behind the counter. Usually, someone brings lunch from home and we eat in the back while the other watches the door. We see all kinds of people, from young girls looking for their first saree to grandmothers who know exactly what thread count they want. It is a lot of talking and bargaining. The market can be a bit of a headache with the noise, but once you are inside Shop 38, it is just about the fabric. We just try to keep things organized and hope the rain doesn't leak through the front door when the monsoon season starts.
