Kala Kriti Sarees

Kala Kriti Sarees is tucked away in Katra Nawab, which is right in the heart of Chandni Chowk. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets. We are at 203 and 204, right across from the chota Hanuman Mandir. Sometimes the bells from the temple are the only thing you can hear over the shouting of the rickshaw pullers outside. Our shop is full of sarees from top to bottom. We don't have a lot of space to walk around, so we mostly sit on the floor cushions and show the work to whoever walks in. Chandni Chowk is a tough place to work because of the heat and the narrow lanes, but we have been here a long time. The building is old, and the walls are thick, which helps a little bit. We get our stock from all over, and it takes a lot of time to check every piece for defects. Most of the day is spent drinking tea and waiting for the afternoon rush. It gets very cramped when more than three people come in at once. We don't really do any big advertising; people just find us because they’ve been coming to this part of the market for years. It’s a lot of work folding everything back perfectly after a long day. We just try to get through the pile before we head home in the evening.
