Jain Trading Co is right at 33, Deputy Ganj, near the Gole Chakkar in Sadar Bazar. If you know Sadar Bazar, you know how chaotic it is. There are people everywhere, handcarts pushing through the lanes, and the constant noise of the market. Our shop is just one of many in the area, but we’ve been here at number 33 for a long time. The Gole Chakkar is a major landmark, but even then, it’s easy to get lost in the narrow streets. Our space is packed from floor to ceiling with goods. There’s barely enough room for us to sit sometimes, especially when a new shipment arrives. We spend our days talking to customers, haggling over prices, and making sure the orders are correct. It’s a fast-paced environment and you have to be quick on your feet. The air is thick with the smell of the market and the dust. We don’t have air conditioning, just a few old ceiling fans that do their best. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, face to face and hand to hand. We know our regulars by name and we usually have a good idea of what they need before they even ask. It’s loud, it’s crowded, and it’s often exhausting, but this is the heart of the trade and we wouldn’t be anywhere else. There is always something to do in the bazar.
