I. D. Steel Industries

Our shop, I. D. Steel Industries, is at number 42 in the Raghushree Market. We are located near Ajmeri Gate in the Chawri Bazar area, which anyone will tell you is one of the busiest places in the city. The lanes are narrow and there is a constant flow of people, carts, and rickshaws moving past the front door. It is a loud and energetic place to work. Inside the shop, we have racks filled with different steel sections. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze, so you have to be careful where you step. We don't have much in the way of air conditioning, so we rely on the ceiling fans to keep the air moving. The walls are lined with shelves that have been there for decades. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the block, and we often share a pot of tea in the afternoons when things slow down a little. Working in Chawri Bazar means dealing with a lot of dust and noise, but it’s the heart of the trade here. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or advertisements. People mostly find us by walking through the market or by word of mouth. It’s a very hands-on job, and we are usually tired by the time we lock up in the evening. There is always something that needs to be moved or sorted, so we stay pretty busy from Monday to Saturday.
