Hari Om Re Rolling Works

Wazirpur Industrial Area. A 93/12. This part of Delhi is always loud and dusty. We are right in the middle of it at Hari Om Re Rolling Works. Re-rolling steel is hard work. It's hot near the furnaces and the metal is heavy. We don't have air conditioning in the main work area, just big fans that move the hot air around. The plot A 93/12 is our spot. We've been here through many summers and winters. The ground is black from the work we do. You won't find anyone wearing fancy suits here. We wear work clothes that get dirty in five minutes. It’s an industrial life. Every day is about the steel and making sure the machines are running right. Sometimes things break down and we have to fix them ourselves. We know the other shop owners on the street. We all deal with the same noise and the same traffic. It’s not a pretty place, but it’s where the work gets done. We just keep our heads down and handle the steel. That's the way it's always been for us. When the day is over, we are usually covered in grit, but the job is finished. The trucks come in the evening to take the metal away, and then we do it all over again the next morning. It’s just the reality of life in Wazirpur, and we are used to it. The metal doesn't move itself, so we just get to it.
