Golden India

If you head into Old Delhi and find your way to Ballimaran, you’ll eventually hit Qasim Jan Street. That’s where Golden India is, specifically at Plot No. 1487. This whole Baradari area is very old and the streets are quite narrow. You might have to park your bike a bit further away and walk. It’s a busy spot near Chandni Chowk, so there is always noise and people pushing past. Our shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of space we have. We keep our stock piled up toward the ceiling. It can be a bit dark inside even during the day, so we keep the overhead lights on. We sell a variety of things that people in the market are looking for. It’s a family-run kind of vibe here. Someone is usually drinking tea near the front desk while talking to a regular visitor. We don’t have any signs telling you where to go inside. You just walk in and ask for what you need. The walls have some cracks and the paint is peeling a bit, but that’s just how it is in these old buildings. It’s a lot of manual work, carrying boxes and keeping track of inventory by hand. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. Some days the heat is a lot, but we have a few fans that keep the air moving enough to get by.
