Fatehpuri is a place that never really stops moving, and being right on Church Mission Road at 651 means we are in the middle of all that noise. It’s been here a long time, and you can see it in the walls and the floor. We don’t have fancy decorations or anything. People come here for the food, usually standing up or squeezed into whatever space they can find. It’s always crowded, especially when the weather is hot and everyone wants something cold. We spend our mornings stirring big pots and getting the sweets ready. The smell of ghee and sugar is everywhere. It’s a hard place to work because of the heat and the constant stream of people asking for things, but it’s also got a lot of life. You see all sorts of people passing through Church Mission Road, from tourists to old men who have lived in Old Delhi their whole lives. We don’t spend money on marketing because the name has been around long enough that people just know where to go. Sometimes we run out of stuff by the evening because the demand is just too much. It’s not a quiet job, and your ears are usually ringing by the time you go home, but it’s part of the history of this part of town. We just keep doing what we’ve always done at 651. It’s dusty and loud but it’s our life.
