Dryfruit Spices

Our little shop is at 51/14 in Bara Hindu Rao. It is an old part of the city and the lanes are very narrow. You can't really bring a big car in here without getting stuck. We have bags of spices and containers of dry fruits piled up against the walls. The air always smells like cardamom and cloves, which we don't even notice anymore. We have been in this same spot for quite some time. It is a family thing, really. My uncle used to sit here, and now it is my turn to handle the customers. We don't have a computer or any modern systems. We write everything down in a thick ledger book. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just use a small light to see what we are doing. The walls are a bit dusty from all the sacks of goods being moved around. People come from all over to find specific things they can't get in the newer markets. We don't do any marketing or spend money on ads. The shop has been here, and people just know where to go. It’s a very simple way of doing business, based on just being here every day. We close up late and start again early the next day. The door is old and sticks a bit, but we know how to pull it just right. We’re just here in the lane, doing what we know best with what we have.
