Delhi Kirana Co.

We have been running this shop at 138 Khari Baoli for a good while now. This part of Old Delhi is always packed, and Naya Bans is no different. It’s right by Masjid Tehwar Khan, so there’s a lot of noise and people moving about all day long. We deal in all sorts of kirana items and spices. Most of our days are spent hauling heavy bags around and making sure the inventory is right. It’s not a fancy place by any means. It’s just a traditional shop with wooden counters and shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. My family has been in this trade for several generations. We open up the shutters early when the air is still a bit cool. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late and it messes up our whole schedule, but that’s just life in a busy market. The streets are so narrow that we have to be quick with the loading and unloading or we block everyone else. We don't have time for fancy talk or big advertisements. People come to us because they know we have been here for years. It’s a lot of hard work and we get pretty dusty by the end of the shift. We just try to get the orders filled and keep the shop running like it always has. It’s a simple way of living, and we’re used to the hustle of Khari Baoli by now.
