Chawal Wale

We are Chawal Wale, and our shop is located at 13 Khari Baoli. This is an old part of the city and things move in a very certain way around here. We sell rice in big jute sacks that are stacked up to the ceiling. The shop is always filled with the smell of dry grains and the dust from the bags. It’s not a modern supermarket with aisles. There are no trolleys or bright lights. Just piles of rice and an old scale for weighing. We've been at number 13 for many years now. We know all the other traders on the street. It’s a busy place with trucks loading and unloading sacks all the time. Our floors are always a bit dusty because of the grain. We don't have a website or a sales team to find customers. We just open the heavy shutters in the morning and wait for the people to come in. Most of them have been buying their rice from us for a very long time. We speak plainly about the quality of the rice we have. If it’s good, we say so. If it’s just okay, we say that too. We don't use fancy packaging or labels. You buy what you see in the open bags. Khari Baoli is a tough place to work because it’s so crowded and hot, but we are used to it. Chawal Wale is just a small part of this big spice and grain market. We keep things simple every day.
