Chaforte Tea House

We are situated at Plot No-B-91, Street No.1 in Majlis Park. It is right across from the Azadpur Mandi, so things get started very early in the morning, even before the sun is up. The whole street is usually blocked with trucks and carts full of fruit and vegetables. I have to squeeze through the crates just to open the shutters some days. Inside, it is a narrow space with just enough room for the milk crates and the sugar bags. Being opposite the mandi means we see a lot of tired drivers and laborers who have been working all night. The floor stays a bit muddy because people are coming in from the wet market outside. I spend a lot of time just washing glasses and boiling more water. The tea stays hot in the big metal dispensers we have on the counter. It is never really quiet here because of the shouting and the horns from the main road. I usually have the light bulb hanging from the ceiling on all day because the buildings are so close together that not much natural light gets in. Sometimes the smell of the onions or potatoes from across the street is stronger than the tea. We just keep our heads down and serve whoever comes through the door. It is a rough and tumble kind of place, but it works for us and the people around here.
