Chadha Kiryana Store

Our shop, Chadha Kiryana Store, is right at Lahori Gate 1. If you know this area, you know it is always incredibly noisy with all the trucks and carts moving through the market. We deal in kiryana goods, so there are always big sacks of rice, pulses, and various spices stacked up everywhere. The air inside always has a strong smell of turmeric and cumin which I have gotten used to over the years. It is a small place so we have to stack the bags really high, almost touching the ceiling. You have to be careful when you are pulling one out so the whole pile does not come down. I have a couple of boys who help me with the heavy lifting because my back is not as strong as it used to be. We open up the shutters early and stay until the market starts to get quiet in the evening. I keep a ledger on my desk to write down all the sales. It is an old book with a red cover but it works just fine for me. People know me as the shopkeeper who always has a bit of flour or grain on his clothes. We do not do any big advertising or anything like that. We just sell the basics that people need for their kitchens. Some days are slow but usually there is enough to keep us moving. It is just steady work at the gate.
