Our shop is located in the old part of the city at Bazar Sita Ram, specifically on the first floor of the United Arcade. If you know the area near Lal Darwaza, you know how crowded it gets with all the rickshaws and people moving about. We deal with metals here at No. 1401 and it is a lot of heavy lifting every single day. The stairs are narrow and carrying things up and down really takes a toll on your back after a few years. It's usually quite loud in this building because of all the different businesses working at the same time. Everything is covered in a bit of dust and metal shavings, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. I usually get here early to beat the worst of the traffic, but it’s still a struggle sometimes. We don't have a big office or anything, just a desk and some space to store the stock. Most of our day is spent weighing things or talking to people about prices, which change all the time. It gets very stuffy in the arcade during the monsoon season when the air just sits still. My clothes always have some kind of mark or grease on them by the afternoon. It's just a basic trade we’ve been doing for a long time now. We just stay focused on the work and closing up on time.
