About Ajay Ashok Welding Work Shop – Metals & Minerals in North Delhi
Being on the fifth floor of Nehru Place for a welding workshop is a bit different, I guess. We are in room 513. It's a lot of carrying metal up and down, but we make it work. The shop is filled with the smell of burnt iron and the bright flashes of the welding torch. We handle mostly small repairs and custom bits that people bring in. It's loud, and the masks get hot, but that's just the job. We have our tools scattered around on the workbenches, always keeping the grinders and rods ready. People find us when they have something broken that needs a strong fix. We don't spend much time cleaning up the dust because it just comes back five minutes later. There’s usually a pile of scrap in the corner. My hands are always stained with soot, and the floor has those little burn marks from the sparks. We work through the day, mostly focused on getting the joints right. It's a bit cramped in here with the machines, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the elevator is slow, which is a pain when we have a delivery. We just get on with it. It’s honest work. We don't have a big sign outside or anything. Most folks just hear about us from someone else in the building or nearby. It's just me and a couple of helpers mostly. We stay busy with the local projects people bring us.
