Out at 120 in the Jaippalpur Industrial Area, Pioneer Metal Solutions is where we spend our days. It’s a straightforward kind of place, mostly focused on the metalwork that comes through the door. The industrial area is a bit out of the way, which is fine because we need the space for the raw materials and the machinery. It gets hot in there, especially when the machines have been running since six in the morning, but we’ve got a couple of big fans that help a little. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the office looks. As long as the tools are where they belong and the orders are moving out the gate, we’re happy. The guys here have been working together for a long time, so we don’t need to say much to know what needs doing next. There’s a certain sound to a metal shop that you don't find anywhere else, a mix of grinding and heavy lifting. We take our lunches together under the shade when we can, and then it’s back to the floor. It isn’t glamorous work, and our hands are usually dirty by noon, but it’s what we do. We’ve stayed in Jaippalpur because it’s where the work is, and we’ve built up a decent rhythm here over the seasons. We just keep our heads down and get through the pile of work on the bench, one piece at a time.
