Javed Kaj House is right near the Atta Market in Sector 21. If you have ever been to this part of town, you know it is always crowded and noisy with people shopping for everything under the sun. We are in a small shop that stays pretty cramped because we have so many machines and rolls of thread everywhere. Our main work is making buttonholes and doing the small finishing touches on clothes that people bring us. It is the kind of job that requires a lot of focus, so we spend most of the day bent over our worktables with our lamps turned on. The machines have a very specific clicking sound that we don't even notice anymore, though it might bother someone else. Sometimes the neighborhood kids run past the door and make a lot of noise, but it's just part of being near the market. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. The space is a bit messy with fabric scraps on the floor, but we know where everything is. We don't really do any promotion or marketing. Most people find us because their tailors told them to come here or they just saw our small sign while walking to the market. It is a simple life and we are happy to be part of the hustle and bustle of Sector 21 every single day.
