Ice Cube

We set up Ice Cube over in Sector 38, right at number 313 in the A block. It’s a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the other side of town, but the locals know where we are. The space isn’t huge, but we made it work. We spend a lot of time worrying about the freezers because if they go down, we’re in trouble. The hum of the cooling units is the background noise of our lives. We didn't really hire a decorator or anyone like that, we just put up some shelves and brought in the tables. It’s a practical setup. During the summer, this place is packed because the heat in Sector 38 gets pretty bad. People just want to sit somewhere out of the sun for a bit. We get a lot of students and people working nearby who just need a break. Sometimes we run out of certain things by the afternoon, and we have to tell people we're sorry. It’s just how it is when you’re a small operation. We do all the cleaning and the heavy lifting ourselves. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. We try to keep the music at a decent volume so people can actually talk. It’s just a basic spot to cool off and have something cold without any of the extra nonsense you find elsewhere. We’re usually here until the late evening cleaning up.
