Our place, Food 24, is tucked inside the Sher Singh Market in Naya Bans, Sector 15. It’s a bit of a maze to find us if you aren't from around here, but the regulars know the way. The market is always loud and there’s always someone hauling boxes past the front window. We stay open long hours because that’s just the way the market works. The kitchen is small and we’re usually bumping into each other when the tickets start piling up on the rail. We don't have any matching plates or fancy napkins, just sturdy stuff that can survive being washed a hundred times a day. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to close up and do it. We cook the kind of stuff that fills you up so you can get back to work. Some days the drain out front acts up and we have to deal with that, which isn't fun, but it's part of being in an old market like Sher Singh. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. It’s just food, served 24 hours when we can manage it. Most nights it's just the sound of the fridge humming and a few people eating in silence before heading home. It’s a quiet kind of life in a noisy place, and we just keep the lights on for whoever is hungry.
