Chemfab Welders Ltd.

We are set up at Team House on G.S.T. Road in Vandalur. If you know that stretch of road, you know how busy the traffic gets, especially with all the trucks moving toward the city. At Chemfab Welders Ltd., the sound of welding torches and metal hitting metal is basically our background music. It’s a gritty job, and our clothes usually have a few small burn holes or stains from the day’s work. We spend a lot of time bent over workbenches or crouching down to get an angle right on a joint. The air inside the workshop has that distinct smell of hot steel and ozone. We have a small crew, and everyone just knows their spot. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a suit. We are more interested in the quality of the weld and making sure things are held together properly. Sometimes the delivery trucks get delayed because of the bypass traffic, which can be frustrating when we are waiting for a specific type of rod or plate. We take our breaks in the small corner area where the fan actually reaches. It is a lot of repetitive motion, grinding down edges and checking alignments, but there is a certain rhythm to it that you get used to after a few months. We just try to finish the day’s pile so we can go home and get the dust off.
