Working at Apna Bharat Batteries & Inverter in Khora Colony means dealing with heavy stuff every single day. Our shop at D-29 is mostly full of big lead-acid batteries and those heavy inverter units that people need when the power goes out. The floor is concrete because wooden shelves wouldn't hold the weight of these things. It always smells a little bit like chemicals and metal in here, which you get used to after a week or two. We spend a lot of time moving crates around and checking the water levels in the batteries. Khora is a crowded place, so there’s always someone coming in asking about why their backup isn't lasting as long as it used to. We keep some basic tools on a workbench in the corner, mostly screwdrivers and meters for testing the voltage. It’s a messy job sometimes, especially when you’re dealing with old units that have been sitting in someone’s dusty cupboard for years. My hands are usually a bit dirty by lunch time. We drink tea from the stall next door twice a day. The shop doesn't have much decoration, just some posters from the battery companies and a clock that runs five minutes fast. We try to keep things organized but when a big shipment comes in, the whole front area gets blocked with boxes for a few hours.
