Surender Cloth House

Surender Cloth House is found in Nagal Raya, right within the Delhi Cantonment area. It’s a place that feels a bit more traditional than the newer parts of the city. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with different fabrics and cloths of all kinds. We don't have much room for anything else, so even our desk is usually covered in samples. It’s a family business that has been around for a long time, and we still do things the old-fashioned way. We don't have a website or an online store; we just wait for people to come in and see what we have. The street outside is usually full of rickshaws and people going about their grocery shopping. We have a big fan that hums all day long, and we keep the doors open so we can see what’s happening on the road. It gets a bit noisy, but we are used to it by now. My father still likes to sit in the shop and talk to the old customers who have been coming here for twenty years. We use a big pair of heavy scissors to cut the cloth, and they have been with us since the shop first opened. We aren't trying to do anything fancy or corporate. We just sell cloth and try to make sure we have enough variety for the local people. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting rolls and measuring, but it’s what we know how to do.
