Bhagwati Store

Bhagwati Store is right in the thick of it at No. 1033- B in the Main Bazar of Paharganj. If you’ve been to Paharganj, you know it’s absolute chaos. There are tourists, cows, and motorbikes everywhere. Our store is small but we cram a lot into it. We sell all sorts of things. It’s hard to list everything because the stock changes so much. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling. I usually have to use a rickety ladder to reach the top items. We open early because the market never really sleeps. It’s dusty and loud outside, but inside we try to keep things organized. We don't have a fancy computer system. Everything is written down in a ledger. It works for us. People come in looking for bargains and we do our best. We’ve seen the market change over the years. New shops come and go, but we stay right here. It’s a family business. My kids sometimes help out after school. We don't have a website or an Instagram. We just rely on the people walking past our door. It’s a simple way to live. Paharganj is a tough place, but it’s our home. We like the energy of the Main Bazar. We have a small stool for customers to sit on if they are tired, but usually, they are in a hurry. We just keep the shop open and wait.
