Colourways Sourcing

Main Mandi Road is always a bit of a mess, but that’s where we are at No. 269. It’s a very active street with a lot of commerce going on. We do a lot of sourcing work, which basically means we’re always looking for things and talking to people. Our office isn’t anything special to look at. It’s got a few chairs, a big table for looking at samples, and rows of filing cabinets. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a coffee bar. We just have a kettle and some packets of tea. Most of our day is spent checking quality and making sure the colors match what they’re supposed to be. It’s a lot of staring at swatches of cloth under different lights. Sometimes we disagree on a shade, and we have to look at it again the next morning. The dust from the road comes in whenever someone opens the door, so we’re always dusting things off. It’s a practical environment. We don’t use a lot of big words or try to impress anyone. We just know who to call when we need something specific. The guys here have been doing this for years, so we’ve seen how the market changes. We just keep our heads down and focus on the orders we have to fill. It’s not glamorous, but it keeps us busy and we like the routine. It is better than working in a stuffy office downtown.
