Our spot is B-154 in Lajpat Nagar-1. If you know Delhi, you know how hectic Lajpat Nagar can be. We aren’t right in the middle of the main central market, but we are close enough to hear the noise. The ground floor of our building is where we do most of the sorting. It’s a bit cramped because we keep a lot of inventory inside. We do imports and exports, so there’s always a pile of bubble wrap or plastic sheeting lying around. The street outside is narrow, so when a delivery van comes, everyone else has to wait. It causes a bit of a stir with the neighbors sometimes. We’ve been at this address for a good while. Our office is just a corner with a fan that squeaks every time it turns. We spend hours on the phone or typing out lists of what needs to go where. It’s not very glamorous work. Lunch is usually something quick from a nearby stall, eaten while we look at the shipping schedules. In the winter, the shop gets quite chilly, so we all wear heavy sweaters while we work. We don’t have any big corporate signs out front, just the address on the door. It’s a small operation, but we stay busy enough to keep the lights on and the boxes moving every single day through the streets of the city.
