Amar Trading Company

Karol Bagh is always loud, and we spend most of our mornings at 8831/2 Shidi Pura just trying to get the shutters up before the rickshaws block the narrow lane. It’s been this way for a while now. Amar Trading Company isn't a huge flashy office, just a place where we keep the stock and talk to people who need things moved or sold. Some days the dust from the street gets inside everything, and we spend more time cleaning than actually trading. The fans hum all day because it gets stuffy back here in the summer. We mostly deal with regular guys who have been coming to this part of Delhi for decades. It’s a lot of paperwork and phone calls that never seem to end. Sometimes the tea guy misses our shop, and that’s the biggest drama of the afternoon. We don’t have fancy chairs for guests, just the wooden ones that have been here since the start. It works for us. You get used to the noise of the market after a few weeks. We just keep track of what’s coming in and what’s going out. It is a simple setup really. There is no air conditioning, just a cooler that makes too much noise in June. We stay busy enough that the clock moves fast. By the time we lock up, the street lights are flicking on and the traffic is even worse than the morning. It's just life in Shidi Pura.
