It’s just us here at C-2Nd 25 in Madangir. The name might sound like something else, but we’re just a small spot tucked away in this part of New Delhi. Life in Madangir is always loud and moving, and we’re right in the middle of it. We spend most of our mornings just trying to get the shutters up and seeing what the day brings. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit there talking until it comes back on. It isn’t fancy like the big hotels you see on TV, even though the name might make you think that. We deal with all sorts of things throughout the day, mostly just local stuff that needs doing. There are about five of us who are here regularly. Most of us live nearby, so the commute is just a quick walk or a short rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes. We’ve been at this address for a while now. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it feels like home. We don’t have any big speeches to give about what we do. It’s just work. We show up, we do what’s on the list, and then we head back home to our families. Some days are busier than others, especially when the weather is bad and everyone is trying to cram into the shade. We just keep things moving as much as we can.
