Out here at Institute No. 18 in the Institutional Area on Lodhi Road, things usually stay pretty quiet compared to the rest of the city. We have a lot of books and old documents lying around because that is just the nature of what we do. The office has that specific smell of old paper and ink that you only find in places where people still value physical things. We sit around big wooden tables mostly, and the air conditioning hums in the background, though sometimes it struggles during the peak of summer. People come in and out looking for specific titles or just to talk about literature, and we do our best to help them find what they need. It is not a flashy place by any means. There are files tucked into corners and shelves that are starting to sag under the weight of so many pages. Our staff has been here for a while, and we all have our own little corners filled with tea mugs and notebooks. We don't really do much in the way of big announcements or fancy events. We just focus on the work at hand, making sure the manuscripts are handled right and the printing schedules are met. Sometimes the monkeys outside cause a bit of a stir on the roof, but mostly it is just us and the books. It feels like a small world of its own inside these walls and we like it.
