About Bageshri Sangeet Kala Sadhna Kendra – Education in New Delhi
In our little corner of Govindpuri Extension in Kalkaji, we spend our days with music. It’s a small space, mostly filled with the sound of harmoniums and the beat of a tabla. We started this place because we wanted a spot where people could come and learn traditional music without it being too formal or scary. You’ll find students of all ages here, from little kids who can barely hold an instrument to older folks who finally have time to learn what they always wanted. It’s not a fancy conservatory; it’s more like a home for music. The walls aren't soundproof, so the neighbors probably hear a lot of singing throughout the day. We have some rugs on the floor where everyone sits, and we just go through the scales and the raags. Sometimes the strings on the sitar break, or someone is out of tune, but that is just part of the learning process. It’s a quiet life mostly. We don't spend money on big ads or shiny brochures. People just hear about us from their friends or walk in when they see the sign in Kalkaji. It’s about practice and patience. We don't promise anyone they'll be a star. We just help them enjoy the music and get better at their own pace. It gets a bit hot in the summers, but the music keeps us going. We keep the doors open and the tea ready.
