B. Electricals

Shankar Gali is always crowded. Our shop is at number 2642 and it is a tight squeeze some days. Being near Asaf Ali Road means there is never a quiet moment. You have the horns and the people shouting and the heat from the street. Inside the shop, it is wall-to-wall wires, switches, and fans. We have been here near the Police Bhawan for a long time. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling and you need a ladder for almost everything. Sometimes we lose the light in the back and have to use a torch to find a specific fuse. It is a bit dusty because of all the traffic outside. We drink a lot of water and keep the fan on high. Customers come in with broken pieces and we see if we can match them up. It is a lot of looking through old boxes. We know the other shopkeepers in the Gali well. We help each other out with change or tea. It is not a big corporate store. It is just a local spot where you come to get your electrical stuff fixed or bought. The ledger is old and the pen is always running out of ink. We just keep going, day after day, in this little corner of the city, trying to help people get their lights back on.
