Our place is tucked away in Gali Shahara near Ajmeri Gate. If you haven't been here before, it can be a bit tricky to find us in these narrow lanes. It’s 4612-15, a couple of small rooms filled with stock. This part of the city never really sleeps. Even early in the morning, there are handcarts moving goods and people everywhere. We deal with various items, mostly hardware stuff that people need for their shops or projects. The walls are lined with shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. It is a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, but we have enough lights. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. You just walk in and talk to whoever is free. Most days are spent counting inventory or packing boxes to be sent out. The dust from the street always finds its way in, so we are constantly cleaning the counters. We eat lunch together on the back table, usually whatever someone brought from home in their tiffin. It's not a quiet job. There is always someone yelling for a rickshaw or the sound of metal clanging nearby. We’ve known the other shopkeepers in the lane for decades. We don’t use any fancy systems, just a pen and a notebook mostly for the records. It’s a simple way of doing business, but it works for us. We just keep things moving and try to stay busy.
