Jain Steel Corporation

Jain Steel Corporation is tucked away at 700 Gali Kundewalan, right near Ajmeri Gate. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes are and how many people are always walking around. Getting a truck full of steel through those streets is a nightmare, so we have to be really smart about when we schedule things. Inside our place, it’s mostly stacks of iron pipes, rods, and heavy steel sheets. The building is old, so it stays a bit cooler inside, which is a relief when the sun is beating down on the city. We’ve been here for a long time and we know almost everyone on the street. It’s the kind of place where we still use old scales and write things down by hand in big books. We don't have a website or any fancy advertisements. People just know we are here. If someone needs a few pieces of steel cut to a certain size, we go into the back and get it done. Our hands are always a bit greasy or rusty from handling the metal, but that’s just how it is. Sometimes it gets so loud outside with the horns and the shouting that we can barely hear the customers. We just get on with it. It’s a simple, traditional way of doing things. We focus on having the right stock and making sure the weights are fair for everyone who comes through the door.
