Our shop is number ten in the Vaitara Complex. If you’re driving along the Nashik Pune Road, you’ve probably passed it a dozen times without thinking much about it. It’s a busy stretch of road, always full of cars and people heading somewhere else. We’ve been at this location for quite a while now. The complex itself has seen better days, but it’s a good spot for traders like us. We keep the front of the shop pretty busy with stock coming in and going out. It can get a bit messy when a big delivery arrives and we have to shuffle things around to make room. The floor is concrete and we’ve got metal shutters that we pull down every night. There’s a small tea stall just a few doors down where we usually get our morning chai. The traffic noise is constant, but you stop hearing it after a while. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just shelves and boxes. Most of our customers are locals or people who know exactly what they need before they walk in. I spend a lot of my time behind the counter checking orders and talking to the drivers. It’s hard work, especially when it’s hot outside and the air doesn’t move much in the complex. But it’s our business and we’ve made a life here on the side of the highway. It is a straightforward way of life.
