Our place, Rayala Seema Farmers Producer Company Limited, sits right across from the Government Hospital at Door No.28/987/A1 in Sai Baba Nagar, Nandyal. It's a handy spot because everyone knows where the hospital is, so they don't get lost looking for us. Being in the Kurnool district, we deal with a lot of the local farmers who bring their produce in from the surrounding areas. The Rayalaseema region is known for being quite dry and tough, so we spend a lot of time talking about water and how to make the best of what we have. It’s a plain building, nothing to brag about, but it’s sturdy and keeps the rain off the equipment when it actually does rain. We have a few desks and a lot of empty sacks lying around most of the time. People drop by throughout the day to talk about market prices or just to see what's happening with the harvest. We don't use big words or try to act like we're something we're not. We’re just a group of people trying to make a living off the land in Andhra Pradesh. Some days the sun is beating down so hard you don't even want to move, but there’s always something that needs loading or unloading. We keep the books as best as we can and try to stay ahead of the bills each month. It's just the way things are here.
