Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Rajgir is a beautiful, quiet place with a lot of history, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is lucky enough to be situated right in the middle of that calm environment. Since it is a residential school, life here never really stops. From the early morning PT exercises on the ground to the late-night study sessions in the dorms, the campus is always humming with some kind of activity. The buildings are spread out, and there is plenty of space for the kids to run around, which is a nice change from the cramped schools in the cities. You will see students coming from all over the district, carrying their trunks and getting settled into their new lives away from home. The dining hall is probably the loudest place on campus, especially during dinner when everyone is hungry after a long day of classes and sports. The teachers also live on-site, so there isn't much of a boundary between school life and home life. We deal with the usual problems of a boarding school, like kids getting homesick or trying to sneak extra snacks into their rooms. The air is fresh because of the hills nearby, and the whole place has a very grounded, practical feel to it. It is about routine and hard work, with the students learning to take care of themselves and each other in a way that you don't see in day schools.
