Samrat Industrial Area, Number 10. We are right near Gajanan Transport. You can’t miss the trucks parked nearby. It’s an industrial spot, so there’s always the sound of metal hitting metal. We do engineering work. Mostly repairs and making small parts. The shop floor is dark and oily. That’s just how engineering shops are. We have a few lathes and a welding setup. Our clothes usually have a few holes from sparks. It’s hard work, but we’re used to it. The area is busy from morning till night. Sometimes we stay late to finish a job for someone whose machine broke down. We don’t have a secretary. If the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands on a rag and picks it up. Usually, people just drop by with a broken part in their hands. We take a look and tell them if we can fix it. No big contracts or long meetings. Just practical stuff. The heat in the summer makes the shed feel like an oven. We just drink a lot of water and keep the big doors open. Being near Gajanan Transport is handy for getting materials moved. We’ve been in Samrat for a long time. We know the other shop owners. It’s a tough neighborhood but everyone looks out for each other. Sometimes we share tools when something breaks. It's just how we get by day to day. We don't complain much, we just get the metal work done.
