Out in Borgaon, specifically in the Medicinal Chemistry Department, is where you’ll find our institute. It’s a bit of a quiet area, which is good when you’re trying to focus on chemistry and research. We spend most of our time in the labs, looking at compounds and trying to figure out how different chemicals react. It’s not like what you see on TV; it’s a lot of waiting for things to boil or dissolve. The equipment we have is used every day by both the staff and the students who are working on their projects. We’ve got a lot of glassware that needs constant cleaning and shelves full of reagents that we have to keep track of. It’s a practical place where people come to learn the real side of pharmaceutical work. We don't have much in the way of decoration on the walls, just charts and safety notices. Most of us have been here for years, so we know the layout of the labs by heart. Sometimes we have meetings to talk about the latest research, but mostly we’re just busy with the day-to-day tasks of running an educational department. The air usually smells a bit like alcohol or some other solvent, but you get used to it pretty fast. It’s a steady kind of life, working through the steps of an experiment and teaching the next group how to do things properly. We often find ourselves staying late when an experiment is at a critical stage. It’s just how things work here in Borgaon.
