Grid Architects

Our little setup for Grid Architects is over at 71 Gajanan Nagar. It is a residential kind of neighborhood, so it stays pretty peaceful most of the day. We like it here because it feels more like a home than a stiff office building. Our space is filled with drawing tables, rolls of yellow tracing paper, and a lot of half-empty coffee cups. We spend our hours looking at grids—hence the name—and trying to make sure everything fits where it should. Architecture is a lot of problem-solving, like trying to fit a big dream into a small budget or a tight piece of land. We don't use any big words to describe what we do. We just draw buildings and help people get them built. Usually, a typical day involves some time on the computer and a lot of time on the phone with masonry contractors or glass suppliers. Sometimes we’re out in Gajanan Nagar walking to a nearby site, and other times we’re driving across town to check on a foundation. It’s a lot of back-and-forth. We don’t have a big team of sales people. If you call us, you’re talking to the same person who is going to be drawing your stairs or your roof plan. We just like to keep things direct and honest. It’s hard work, but seeing a family move into a house we designed makes the long hours at the desk worth it.
