Our office is tucked away in Gangwani Niwas, which is right behind CP Berar College here in the Mahal area of Nagpur. Being near the college means there’s always a lot of energy around, especially when classes let out and the students fill up Naik Road. It can get pretty loud, but it’s a familiar sound to us by now. The building isn’t brand new, but it serves its purpose for our credit society work. We see a lot of local women coming in and out throughout the day to talk about their accounts or handle their financial stuff. It’s a very local atmosphere. The desks are usually piled with ledgers and documents because there is always a lot to keep track of. Nagpur summers are no joke, so we have the coolers running full blast most of the time to keep the air moving. The Mahal area has these narrow streets that can be a bit of a headache for parking, but everyone manages somehow. We know most of the people who walk through our door by their first names. It’s just how things work in this part of town. Behind the college, things feel a bit more tucked away from the main city chaos, though it’s never exactly silent. We just show up, do the work, and chat with the members who stop by. It’s a steady routine that keeps the place going from morning until we lock up for the day.
